“Eleanor of Toledo”, inspired by the work of Agnolo Bronzino, 42 x 29,7 cm cm, crayons on paper, 2022
Eleanor of Toledo became a symbol of Florence during her lifetime. Devoted and pious, she was not only a patron of the arts, but also acted as regent in her husband's absence. Bronzino's paintings of this statuesque woman are numerous. Florence owes Eleonor, among other things, the so-called Boboli gardens. The lack of vegetation in the Palazzo Vecchio saddened the duchess, which is why she decided to create a large plant complex in the city. Although, she died before finishing the works, the Boboli gardens impress with their scale and area to this day. My version of Eleanor is more linear than the original. The graphic patterns on her dress perfectly match the crayon drawing.
